For those of you have followed CFTT over the years, you know that I publish a Top Ten Offseason Stories. I like top ten lists, and this list has been a fun one to do each year, depending on how the offseason goes.
- Texas Stays in the Big 12
The Longhorns flirted with the Pac 10, and in light of Nebraska and Colorado leaving (see below), decided to stick it out for the sake of their little brothers. - Coaching changes
It happens every year, and every year, we can’t believe what just happened. Brian Kelly goes from Cincinnati to Notre Dame where they tossed Charlie Weis. Pete Carroll finally left USC to take the Seahawks job while Lane Kiffin left Tennessee to take the USC job. Turner Gill took over the Kansas program while Charlie Strong as now at Louisville. Jimbo Fisher has taken over at Florida State and the list goes on. - Double T to Double T
Is that possible. Good ole Tommy Tuberville was hired at Texas Tech for the disgraced/fired Mike Leach. Tuberville had good runs at Ole Miss and Auburn where he may lay claim to a 2004 National Title. - Urban Meyer Retires. . . . well, maybe not
Meyer originally retired, leaving folks scratching their head. Then, with a change of heart, he un-retired. It should make for an interesting season in Gainesville. - Jeremiah Masoli dismissed from Oregon
The trouble QB finally crossed the line and was dismissed by the Ducks. Now, it seems, he set to be an Ole Miss rebel. He is the perfect non-throwing quarterback for Houston Nutt. - Conference Changes
The dominoes began to fall in June when Colorado announced it was joining the Pac 10. Later Utah announced it was leaving the Mountain West Conference to move to the Pac 10 right before Boise State said it was moving from the WAC to the MWC. - USC hammered off the field
Several years of investigations led the NCAA to rule that Reggie Bush received improper funds as outlined in the book Tarnished Hesiman. The result was sanctions, punishments, etc. that were leveled against the Trojans. Interestingly it happened after Pete Carroll had left town. - Auburn to win 2004 Coaches Championship
A 2004 title would be bittersweet for Tiger fans, but justified nonetheless. The idea is being kicked around by the Football Writers Association of American who award the Grantland Rice Trophy has major influence on the Associated Press and could set off a tidal wave of reactions should they reaward the trophy to Auburn. - Rules Changes
There are always rule changes, and 2010 will have three. Most notably will be the waving of points on a taunting penalty. - Erin Andrews still looks pretty
She is everybody’s favorite sideline reporter, and I needed another reason. So, after seeing her during the Summer, I declare that she is still as lovely as ever!
